First self portrait. Yea... I'm in there.

Kicking my parents out of the kitchen and even barricading them in their bedroom until 2:00 AM was the norm growing up in Brooklyn, NY. In 1966 John Lennon made his famous exclamation that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus, the first lunar orbiter was launched, Ronald Reagan was elected governor of California and the television series 'Star Trek' hit the screen for the first time. I didn’t notice. At 13 years old I was already swimming in developer, fixer and stop baths. Feeling around blindly in changing bags to unravel canisters of film and, as clichéd as it is, watching the magic of images appearing on paper under red safelights was an addiction that lasted until the digital coming of age. And then...

Eatin' by the Cab

A lifetime of accumulation... perspective and introspection in a box. More to the point… boxes, folders, albums and binders of negatives, prints and contact sheets. It was not all for art, although, art there is.

They’re Baaaaaaaack…

…this time with their teenage offspring. The elk herd has returned to Heritage Road and Berthoud Way this wintry Saturday morning in April. Taken by David of Brenowitz Photography, from the upstairs window of the gallery. The view is always rewarding, whether it’s the elk, coyote or the distant foothills. Life is good.

10,000 Served

The WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) conference has just ended. WPPI is huge. To give you a sense just how huge; last year there was an estimated 10,000 attendees. It felt pretty close to that this year. Marcia and I stayed with the main convention itinerary but not before enjoying the wonderful show "KA" by Cirque de Soliel. Lets just say that whatever you can imagine an over the top show to be …multiply that by 10. At the convention, we maxed out on over4 sessions a day with about 10 classes to chose from for each of those sessions. Brain cells full…. Must assimilate.
